Short-tempered, irritable, cantankerous, argumentative... The list of Viana's more notable traits continues. Like all pessimists, she thinks of herself as a realist. How she ever attracted and now keeps the friends she has can cause some to wonder.
One could say a good point about Viana is her readiness to stand up for those she likes and argue on their behalf. However, one could also note that she just likes to argue.

THOMAS MILLWOOD a.k.a. Thomas, Tom

Thomas is generally an easy-going and relaxed person. He likes volunteering -- especially when he can sucker a friend into joining him -- and gets enthusiastic about holidays. Though normally gentle, he has been known to plot the gruesome demise of stereos that repeat the same song too often.
Thomas is an artist by profession and possesses a more romantic soul than either of his two roommates, Viana and Velvet. He enjoys living with them, for they keep life interesting, and he can match them joke for joke.

Velvet is cheerful incarnate. People like to be around her because she is, quite simply, fun. She can be inconsiderate at times and unintentionally stomp on the personal space or needs of others, but it is not malicious and those affected find it hard to resent her.
Though bubbly and often silly, Velvet may be the smartest of the group. She certainly knows how to enjoy herself and not worry about the things she cannot control, and she generally manages to escape all events unscathed.

WOOLA RAMSON (Née CURLER) a.k.a. Woola

Woola is nice. Woola is cheerful. Woola is maternal. Woola is quiet. Woola is so unlike Viana that many find it hard to accept that the two were best friends as children and maintain their friendship now as adults. Yet, somehow it happened and now Woola can peacefully watch her friend tie herself into knots, knowing she has more help than ever before for the detangling process.

Thondy, husband to Woola and father to Devan, is perhaps the one who finds Woola and Viana's friendship the hardest to reconcile with himself. Viana distrusted and disliked Thondy from the instant he first started dating Woola in high school. Though he has proven himself to her and won her grudging approval, the two keep an uneasy peace, only their mutual affections for Woola and Devan bringing them together. Thondy gets quite along well with the others, though.

Devan, son of Woola and Thondy, is a charming young lamb who befriends others easily. He can get away with just about anything, so those around him are lucky that he is not much of a troublemaker... yet. His friendship with Alicia may change that. For now, he entertains easily, is easily entertained in turn, and harbors a slight crush on Velvet.

Due to living with his fun but frightening roommates, Thomas needs normality. Aaron provides that very well. He is very much "your average Joe," liking the standard "guy" things and serving as a good pal. Aaron gets along fine with just about anyone he meets, overcoming the "shy geek" stereotype of his profession, accounting.

Rasha is beautiful and she knows she is beautiful! She and Thomas enjoy a casual romance with Thomas in which they can each date others if they wish, but they generally are happy with each other. Rasha is feminine, fashional, gregarious, and flirtatious, more similar in nature to Velvet than to Viana. She and Viana work the same shift at Bubbling Beauty And Bath at the local mall.

For almost any volunteer activity, Blaire can be found in charge. Sensitive to a lifetime of "cute rabbit" stereotypes, she aggressively seeks to fight the label of "dumb bunny." She is generally bossy and does not tolerate inefficiency well. After the event or project has completed, she may spare some gentleness to her volunteers; an appreciated volunteer can often be suckered into returning.

James is a crazy artist. He gets into trouble for using the world as his canvas, though he knows better. When not appearing on the news for his latest sculpture featuring city construction equipment or mural on the side of town hall, he channels his efforts into helping Blaire run volunteer activities or into being as likeable as possible, so he will be readily forgiven for his next zany stunt.

Alicia is an imaginative, sometimes reckless, and often playful third-grader. Though confined to her wheelchair for reasons not yet disclosed, she remains cheerful and competitive, ready to take on anything anyone else her age would. Both being open and friendly, she and Devan became immediate pals, despite the two-year age difference.

A former model, Nichole is surprisingly at ease with no longer being in the spot light and with being a mother. The aggressive and competitive nature that that helped her career is evident in her only child, Alicia, which both makes Nichole proud and worries her. Outside from the well-being of her wheelchair-bound daughter, Nichole's key concern is getting through the week without having someone say, "Didn't you used to be somebody?"

Cory is the supervisor for Viana and Rasha's work shift at Bubbling Beauty And Bath. He is older and calmer than his subordinates, but has been in customer service too long to think well of people. At work, he pushes his employees hard. Without saying as much, he is trying to encourage them to move on to other -- and hopefully better -- things.

Jared is the artist and writer of Viana's favorite comic book, Wombat Wonder. Thomas convinced Viana to volunteer for ConnectComics, a local comic convention, with the promise of Jared as the Guest of Honor. Through the sheer business she experienced, she nearly missed meeting her hero. Fortunately, she finally did, and he took her hugging his leg in {ahem} stride.

Zeal is the robe-wearing hack cartoonist responsible for the weekly curiosity affectionately known as "Deer Me." She occassionally appears, giving the readers a real scare glimpse of behind-the-scenes life. The Deer Me characters have varying levels of respect for her (Viana and Velvet have none, Thomas and the others have little) and poor Shandower has to deal with her all the time.

SHANDOWER CARDOC a.k.a. Shandower, Shan

For some reason known only to him (probably some blackmail she has on him), Shandower lives with Zeal and helps ensure that she does important things... like draw and eat. He is tolerant to being included in the comic strip from time to time, having already had experience from his appearances in Roomies.
